A Single Parent is one who raises a child or children alone without the mother or father living in the home.

Single Parenthood occurs from several reasons: divorce, death of a spouse, abandonment by either the mother or father, adoption, becoming pregnant outside of being married.

Now more than ever single parents are single grandmothers raising the child or children of their own son(s) or daughter(s) due to abandonment, abuse, drugs, or imprisonment.

The majority of single parent households are led by females rather than males. However, there has been an increase in the number of single parent households led by men.

Single parent female households can be found in every nation of the world. It is not just limited to the inner city, suburbs, or the United States.

Being a single parent mom crosses all racial, socioeconomic, educational, and religious backgrounds.

Single parent female households usually experience a higher level of poverty, poorer health, and a lack of educational achievement. However, there are many single moms who do not struggle in these areas.

The major issues that most always affect single parent moms are a lack of income or inadequate income, lack of support from family and/or friends, the lack of time for self and the inability to progress in life to higher stages of living.
 
However single parent moms are to be honored and loved because in spite of their situation, many moms become very creative and resourceful becoming good stewards of all things, possess effective time management skills, are very good at budgeting, do more with less, and raise independent, responsible and mature children. These moms always make daily sacrifices for the benefit(s) of their child(ren). Despite all the difficulties, the love for their child(ren) helps mothers conquer and deal more effectively with life's adversities.

For some single moms, single parenthood is a season of life rather than a lifetime journey. Some choose to marry or remarry and form a new family. For others, being a lifetime single mom is more of a joy than a challenge. Being or suddenly becoming a single parent mom does not mean your life is doomed but rather it is an opportunity for you with God in charge to experience and succeed in a new way of living.
